Snappy Returns to Iowa State Fair
As the 2018 Iowa State Fair gets underway, Snappy Popcorn is set to continue and expand its fair traditions. Snappy, a proudly Iowa-based company with locally grown popcorn products, brings to the fair a food stand, sponsored contest and merchandise booth.
Snappy’s popular food truck returns this year, which will be located on the north side of the fairgrounds near the Animal Learning Center and Little Hands on the Farm program. The menu includes bagged gourmet popcorn, a variety of beverages, popcorn balls and popcorn on a stick concoctions. This year’s new menu items are chocolate-dipped, "muddy pig” popcorn on a stick and Iowa-shaped popcorn on a stick, as well as bagged rainbow caramel popcorn and caramel apple popcorn.
Along with the food stand, Snappy is once again participating in the fair programming this year, with its long-running Snappy Popcorn Creations contest. Held every year since 2002, this competition challenges participants to create imaginative and tasty snacks using Snappy popcorn. Entries are divided into three classes — Sweet Treats, Non-Sweet Snack Creations and Popcorn Sculpture.
The contest’s winning recipes are often published in the Iowa State Fair Cookbook. Past winners include cherry granola, spicy cheese and cinnamon bun popcorn recipes. This year’s Snappy Popcorn Creations contest will take place August 13 at 3:00 p.m. in Judging Room II of the Elwell Family Food Center.
In addition to the contest and food truck, Snappy will also be selling popcorn and popcorn supplies in the south room of the Varied Industries Building.
"We are always excited to be involved in the Iowa State Fair and contribute to its exciting, unique atmosphere,” said Jon Tiefenthaler, owner of Snappy Popcorn Co. "Our Iowa-grown popcorn treats are always a big hit, and it is great to be a part of one of our state’s biggest and most impressive yearly events.”
The Iowa State Fair runs from Thursday, August 9 to Sunday, August 19.
